How
do I upgrade from Doors Standard to Professional?
I
need my company's general inventory list converted for use in Doors.
What format do you require?
Security Software can convert many file types, however we have created
this Excel
template guideline. This ensures you do not miss important
information fields.
There
is a total of 13 fields available for each item in the General Inventory.
For a detailed description of each field and a list of the required
fields visit the Doors Help menu (press F1 while in GIL). Also read
The General Inventory List user guide by clicking the Learning link
below.
The maximum length of characters allowed in each field is as follows:
Field Name Number of
Characters
Ref No 14
Description 50
Product Type 20 (keep very short)
Cost number
List number
Supplier 35
Series 25
Cat No 25
MF 4
Unit 4
Fire number
P Tax number
S Tax number
Once
the Excel file is filled out, email it to us for conversion using the
link at the bottom of this page. Once converted we will return it to
you. You can import it in to Doors using the Inventory - General - Import
main menu options.
Is
it necessary to forward files to you every time we need to convert an
inventory?
No,
the first time we convert your information we can save the settings
in the conversion application. We can then forward you a copy of the
conversion software which will be custom set for you to use in the future.
Please contact us for more information using the link at the bottom
of this page.
Do
I have to complete a General Inventory List (GIL) conversion every time
I want to update my inventory?
The General Inventory List (GIL) area contains powerful features
making the updating of GIL products from inside the Doors application
itself fast and efficient. Click the Learning button below and download
The General Inventory List User Guide.
How
can I differentiate between permanent and temporary stock items in the
general inventory list?
As the General Inventory List (GIL) allows comprehensive details and
filtering ability there would be no problem differentiating between
Permanent and Temporary inventory types. You would simply mark the Temporary
with a 'T' in the Reference Number or the whole word 'Temporary' in
another chosen field. The entire GIL list is then easily filtered so
that only those items containing that 'T' or 'Temporary' parameter appear
on screen. From here editing or deleting these items at any time is
simple.
Can
Doors integrate with my company's accounting software package?
Doors contains many export features in the software that your accounting
package may be able to import into. To use this you would generate an
invoice or report (ie Bill of Quantities) through Doors then choose
Save to File - Text (*TXT) export option. Many accounting packages allow
the import of Text format files.
How
can I add an electronic header to the Doors PDF reports?
There are many software products that allow the addition of a corporate
header to PDF documents once generated in Doors. Here are links to 3
of them:
FinePrint
CutePDF
Adobe
Acrobat
Can
I save my report settings for reuse in the future?
Yes, choose Reports on the main menu
Set report options (including margins etc)
Click Save As
Enter name for your Customised Report - click OK
This report will now appear in Custom Reports accessed in the reports
window via the top left dropdown menu in the reports window
This means your settings will be saved and you can choose this custom
report each time containing your settings
Can
I change the order in which products appear in my reports?
All reports are in the order of your Product Types. To access and rearrange
this order choose Inventory - General - Product Types from the main
dropdown menu. While in this product type window press the F1 key for
context sensitive information. This is a global list that affects all
reports and you have full control over this. Read page 14 & 19 of
The General Inventory List document by clicking Learn on the menu below
for further expaination.
What
is the best way to backup my Doors files?
Making a backup of all your Doors data is easy by simply making
a copy of the entire DoorsPro installation folder on the server. This
can be done through Windows Explorer and the file should be copied onto
some kind of external media and kept at a separate location. This should
be completed on a regular basis. Read the Doors Network Setup Guide
for information on each of the file types.
What
does the message 'c windows system32 auto exec nt the system file is
not suitable for running ms-dos and microsoft windows applications'
mean?
This is a problem
with Windows XP. If you type in the error message "The system is
not suitable for running MS Dos applications" into Google you will
come up with a number of relevant pages with some solutions to help
fix the problem. I have pasted one below for you which is as simple
as copying a few windows install files from one folder to another:
'This usually occurs if you try to start an MSDOS base or a 16 bit
program on your Windows XP or 200 computer. The solution as given by
Microsoft article published under Q324767 is to copy the following files
from the XP or 2000 CD: config.nt, autoexec.nt and command.com. These
files are found in the i386 folder. They should be copied to the System32
folder which is a sub-folder of Windows folder in the C Drive.'
Other
problems?
Doors uses a third party database. It is a good idea to run Verify on
a regular basis to re index all data. To do this choose Software
- Verify from the main dropdown menu. Tick on Automatically
Attempt to Fix Errors then click Verify.
